The Truth about Blogging

After years of being a blogger of The Equinox Fashion, I have learnt so much about this industry; how it runs, people, connection, and etc. I am still enjoying my work, though sometimes it allows me to see the insight of the shit hole, which others think what we are doing is cool. Yep, the high amount of followers, free clothes, opportunity to attend the fashion events, I have  felt so grateful about everything up until now. However, after years and years involving myself in this blogger sphere, I've lost that 'excitement' in the word 'fashion blogger' more and more. Why? Because I just don't know what the definition is anymore...Can you define? The competition is still high as f*** (which I love it!) The truth is, I didn't quite get it when those real fashion bloggers/ influencers said that they were tired of this industry, and one of the reasons was the so-called girls who want to go to the fashion week just to get snapped by the photographers. Many pretties out there take only selfies, yet call themselves a fashion blogger....I get it now.

I DON'T TAKE INSTAGRAM THAT SERIOUSLY ANYMORE

If you notice on my Instagram (@thequinoxfashion) It's all about 'style & travel' nowadays I guess. I know, I used to write a blog post about Instagram aesthetic, as well as, how to control the theme. But you know what, I just f*** it anyway (lol) I am a social media editor and digital stylist, so it's kinda my instinct to make the feed look right. Yet, I don't take Instagram that seriously anymore. I mean, I don't even care if one picture will look bright as f**** compared to other high contrast-grunge pictures. Sometimes, life just need some fun! However, I still create the weekly content planning every week. Therefore, my main responsibility right now is to control the quality and content, which need to go well together. That's all.

How about the followers and engagement? Well, I just f*** it too (lol x2) Algorithm, fake followers, so many of the excuses on the platform...So, I'm over it.

I think the most important thing is to enjoy using it, while 'branding yourself' To show people of who you really are

DO I MAKE A LOT OF MONEY?

I would say that The Equinox Fashion blog is like my 'baby' The online platform, which connects me to other writers, and gives me lots of opportunities that I can't find anywhere else. From London Fashion Week, to a wide variety of collaborations with the brands, I feel so blessed with everything. However, no I don't make a lot of money from blogging. Maybe 5% of my income is from blogging...To tell you the truth, with the followers on Instagram just only 10K - 30K,we are still called a'micro influencer' Chances to make money? Not that much. If you want to make money or be a full time blogger, you need to have at least 50K of followers to start charging a high amount of money. Speaking as a person who works for the fashion brand, we would rather pay money to those with more than 80K followers.

You would be surprise how the fashion brands can be very tight in budget. However, I've found that there are a lot of local brands who are willing to pay for our work, compared to the well-known ones. Sometimes, I get the money from the start up brands more.

  9. Admire your honesty darl, there's no real money at all in blogging just pure love from bloggers to keep it going. I regard Instagram as a connection to my blog where I can promote it but not to make money too. I love this post from you. Your jacket rocks!

  10. LOVED reading your absolute honest post about blogging! I have stopped giving a fuck about my Instagram now for the algorithm and shadow blocking shit that has been happening. Literally so done with it. And you're right full time blogging does require a lot of followers sadly, to be considered by brands to get paid. And as the time progresses industry keeps demanding more and more only! Being a budding blogger, I am not getting paid at all but just barter and I hate it. But since it is the "industry norm" I am bearing with it.

  11. Informative! I didn’t the details about ig, esp about having atleast 50k followers to make blogging full time. Curating ig is annoying but is it worth it?
