5 Things I've Learnt about Blogging

It has been almost four years for The Equinox Fashion. I still cannot believe how far I have become, started from the days I was rejected by the brands to nowadays when I feel grateful about the day I decided not to give up blogging. It was only the hobby or online platform I have for fun for the first two years, however, I have taken it seriously for the latter years which really pays the price. My journey is not a bed of roses, however, I have learnt a lot, and grown so much of the good and bad of this industry. Therefore, here are 5 things I have learnt about blogging for The Equinox Fashion.

1. Everything takes time

We cannot become the superstar in just one night, can we? It took me years to be at this point, as well as, several roadblocks I have made it through. When I started writing four years ago, I had no idea whether The Equinox Fashion would become my career or not. Sometimes, I felt discouraged about this blogosphere too, because it is very competitive, while the power of the money seems to be one of the tools that make some bloggers go far beyond others. Yes, paying for followers, likes etc, however, it has become a business these days right? So it's not anybody's fault. Like I always say, 'don't give up' and stop complaining 'why I haven't been successful yet'

We all have asked ourselves this question, including me. I think the best advice I can give is to 'focus on yourself' and continually working on what you have to do. If you wanna make it big, then take this blogosphere as seriously as I do. Posting articles a few times a week, and staying presence on the online platforms regularly. Make it as a routine can make us become familiar with what we are doing. It seems to be hard at the beginning, but I believe that if we keep doing it every day or as often as we can, then it will eventually pay off.

2. Learn how to take a photo properly

From a mobile phone to the professional camera, I have tried them all. When I first started blogging, I simply used the phone to take my #ootd photos. The quality of the camera is good nowadays! And we don't have to spend $$$ to get the high-quality camera when we can just edit the photos by those free applications online. I also use my Samsung Galaxy to take photos, but somehow I prefer to invest my money on the big camera for higher quality images I can get. Some people think it is a waste of money, but think about it that this is the long term investment when we can reward ourselves with beautiful photos. If any of you don't know how to take photos properly, browse the Instagram or watch Youtube. These are the free learning platforms we all can use!

3. Don't be too cocky

I have met a broad range of bloggers in real life, from those down to earth to the cocky one. Some will always say hi to you no matter how big they become, while some stop smiling at you once they reach a certain amount of followers. It's no one's fault because we are raised by different backgrounds and families, so people can act differently. It doesn't matter who we come across, but wouldn't it be nice to stay humble? I don't know, I feel like being nice to others while keeping it real is like a first impression

4. It always late in the fashion industry, but being punctual is the key

Even though, I always late when I am meeting my friends (lol) but I always punctual when it comes to a business meeting. There were a few times I had to wait about 45 minutes for the PR representative (from the big brand), or sometimes changed the meeting schedule while letting me waiting for half and hour. 10 to 15 minutes late is fine, but shouldn't be longer than 30. It is not professional tbh.

5. Take a break!

Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I stop blogging for a week and recharging myself for the better performance. I believe that some of us may feel the same in this situation since we are all the human-being. Don't force yourself to blog when you feel overwhelmed because it will never work!

Just take a deep breath, and leave the laptop for a few days in order to do something else. My leisure activities apart from blogging are watching movies at home, and eating. I always feel better when I go outside just for eating ha ha.

  3. I definitely agree with 1 and 5, with the fierce competition in this industry, it can be frustrating at time but everything take time as you've said.

  8. Great tips, I believe these are the things all bloggers learn over the time. Yet, after 4 years I still have problems with updating my blog and social media regularly as it is very time consuming.

And take out a time away of blogging is also great, regarrega our energies and our inspirations. Watching movies and eating is always welcome haha!

  14. yes! 2 + 3 speaks to me the most. 2- I have been trying to work with different photographers to get more artistic perspectives.
3- I met some bloggers/models at coachella and some of them were really rude. I was def surprised at what some success can do to a personality.

  27. These are great tips Gail- I think it's important to not get too caught up in how other bloggers followings compare. I've totally experienced people becoming snobbish when they reach a certain level- it really annoys me. At the end of the day we are all human beings and everyone is equal :)
