3 Reasons Why you Should Travel Alone

I have got lots of feedback regarding my first solo trip to Japan "How was it?!", "Did you feel nervous?", "Aren't you scared?" As mentioned in the previous post, I was a bit scared, but I think it is one of the best time of my life. Somehow, it's different from when I moved to Manchester, UK, or spent my Spring Break in Florida and Chicago. This time, it was just me, the one and only. The trip of a life time, which allowed me to get to know myself better. New adventure, new obstacle, new connection, and the new attitude. Here are the 3 reasons I have learnt from traveling alone

1.) YOU WILL KNOW YOURSELF BETTER

That's right, the BFF (or best friend) with yourself. I had thought that I knew myself enough, but I was wrong. From this trip, it has made me realized how hot-tempered, reckless and weak I was. The vocabularies right here may sound harsh, but it's true. In fact, traveling alone allowed me to connect with my mind & soul better. I have learnt what I want and what I do not want. Without the voice of others, it made me stay with my thoughts all the time. So, no matter what I thought, it was just me telling myself.

When I am home, my family might tell me to do this and do that, or when I have a problem, I always surrounded by people who suggest me things. However, this time, just me baby. I can honestly say that I could connect with myself better than anytime else. I have learnt to depend on myself, not others, and I have learnt to make a decision wiser than before. If you follow my Instagram (@thequinoxfashion) You may think "She looks so happy in Japan!!" Yes, I was, but there was something happened too, yet I decided to move on without any hesitations. If I was in Bangkok, I would probably call my friends or someone to talk to. However, I had no one this time. So, just only me and myself, I had no choice but to stand strong with my own two legs.

Besides, I always had something in my head all the time while traveling. Yes, I was thinking about quitting my job, and starting to do what I want. It had been a hell of a week, but now my mind is clearer, because I have got the answer for myself.

2.) NEW PLACE, NEW PEOPLE, NEW RELATIONSHIP

Before I went to Tokyo/Osaka, I only knew a few people, both are a friend of mine, and some people from Global Travel Blogger Summit I participated in. However, I ended up knowing more people now. I mean, I am very down-to-earth, so I am ok to meet those who I have never met before. Where did I meet them? Obviously, online channel. But only with those who look trustworthy! Most of the people I met were the Japanese travelers. It was good to have someone to talk to you know. Basically, we were just talking, drinking, and chilling.

I mean, I don't mind meeting new people, sharing my thoughts and experiences with them. Because, eventually, they might be my friends, business partners in the future, or a completely stranger. I have met a lot of bloggers whom I have followed on Instagram in real life. Isn't it just amazing how the technology can connect the like-minded people? I don't know about you, but I lived in the states before. So, talking to stranger who sits next to me on the train is normal.

3.) YOU HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF

And it will make you become a stronger person too. It is true that we have wifi, but getting lost even with the wifi on can be scary sometimes. Yea, I was once sitting on the street in Florida because I got on the wrong bus. No internet, just my luck...I don't know, but for me, I had to do everything since the beginning of booking a flight, accommodation, and planning the schedule of each day, which I ended up having nothing (lol)

The purpose of my trip, apart from relaxing, was to connect to people as many as I could. As you know, I want to be The Equinox Fashion, fashion & travel bloggerFor me, I am not scared of trying something new, because in this life, I just want to live life to the fullest with no regrets.

  12. My best friend just went to Europe last month on her own on a tour and really enjoyed it. She said she was really happy she decided to do it and felt similarly to what you wrote above. I don't think I could ever do it alone, I would miss the hubby too much!

  13. Great list. I especially agree w your third point. Traveling alone throughout my 20's forced me to mature & become more dependent. It helped to mold me into who I am.

  16. That's really cool that you learned so many things from this trip. It's not easy doing things on your own. Traveling solo can be difficult, but it's a great experience to have at the same time. :)

  20. It is fun to travel alone because you have independence and you don't feel you can't do what you please when you are with someone :)
I love doing both, being alone when I travel and with someone. <3

  27. Your tips are so spot on! Needing to do everything for yourself can really help you grow, and I love your point about forming new friendships/relationships. I guess it's easier to approach people when they're on their own!

  28. Ah, I can't agree with you more. Travelling alone is a musttt as you get to make your own decisions. I cannot agree more with the chance it provides to clear up your mind, get to know yourself better, and be more confident in yourself. I'm heading to Japan (family trip though) next month and I'll definitely check out what you did there^^ I'm so glad you met blogger friends in real life! I'm so excited to start meeting blogger friends as well, hehe! Following now and excited to read future posts! X

  32. Such a truthful post. My favourite point is the first one. It’s crazy that no matter how well we think we know ourselves, how different we become when we are truly alone with not familiar people around. Loved reading this.

  33. When I went to Austria I wondered off for the morning around the local area on my own and loved it! Yet I had my friends back at the hotel. I still don't think I could ever travel on my own! Fair play to you for doing so though!
