You Don't Need to Be 'Beautiful' to Become a Blogger

Why you don't need to be 'beautiful' or look like a supermodel to become a blogger? Because beauty cannot define 'success' In some careers, yes, it requires that it-girl face to be on a cover of the magazine, but for a blogger, not really. I am from the country, where double-standard is real. The norm of a girl has to be white, or Korean-like, somehow recently the attitude has a little bit changed. Some people think being white (I mean white like Asian white not European) is the best, that's why there are so many whitening products sold all over the cosmetic counters. People can be famous very easily if their faces are up to the standard of the society, having a sexy figure is a plus (as well as having money). They are craving for that aura skin, while I can't even explain how much I obsess with darker skin. In my entire life, I have never considered myself as a girl with a pretty face because that's how the society defined me since I was a kid. However, who gives a f*** about that? Being a blogger doesn't mean that we have to be gorgeous, or look great all the time. I think it is all about the 'character' here.

IT'S HOW YOU REPRESENT YOURSELF, NOT HOW YOU LOOK LIKE

It's not just about a selfie game on Instagram seriously. Being beautiful may lead us to the extended opportunities before anyone else, but being a blogger doesn't require that to achieve the goal. Being a blogger is about 'who you really are!' not to be like someone else, right? I have seen so many girls out there whose faces are just so normal, but their styles are too cool to be like everyone else. For these four years of The Equinox Fashion blog, I have come across a lot of bloggers who are really professional at styling, and their clothes are just on point.

You jealous about those girls with a pretty face? Keep that to motivate you, not let it get you down. What is your style? What is your character? Ask yourself these two questions. If you can't find the answers, then there's no point to become a successful one. I think everyone has his/her own story to tell the audiences because we are all different. To be honest, I think being pretty is boring. Those bloggers I admire are those with the strong characters such as street style, weird hair colour, dope tattoo, crazy mix&match outfit, etc. Being beautiful on the social media is just an online game. Everyone can become a pretty person with a beautiful face with the makeup, but once we remove it, what can we offer to the online presence?

LOVE YOUR FACE, LOVE YOURSELF

Indeed, every time I look at my own reflection in the mirror, I always smile and tell myself 'I love you' It sounds crazy, but it works! Do you like when people say they love you? If so, don't forget to yourself too! If we love ourselves, I believe that we can do anything. I used to hate myself because of some reasons, but the self-positive thinking books have changed my perspective completely. I have become the new person who has learnt how to be in love with myself. I feel like I have more passion with blogging, and everything I am doing. Sometimes, people look at me with those evil eyes (as if they have questions about something), however, IDGAF. I don't question people. In fact, I don't have time to question why or how they look like that. It's ridiculous.

  2. This is an amazing post about self confidence (harder to get in the age of social medias where everyone is so freaking beautiful, perfect, fake or not it depends. One of my friend is perfect on insta but looks the same irl), very helpful. :)

  3. I believe beauty start from the inside it shows and glow in the outside. Clothes and makeup does not make a person but it does make the individual feel good about themselves. You look fabulous doll.

  9. Such a good point! We may not all be what society sees as being "beautiful" but we have much more than our faces to offer the world. We have to show ourselves love and never forget that.

  10. Yayyyy! I totally agree with you Gail- being unique and fun is just as important. You are so beautiful by the way and i think it's crazy that people in Asia bleach their skin, especially when everyone in Europe is slapping on the fake tan!!! I am loving how you've styled this vintage jacket again- can't get enough of this piece

  14. For waht it's worth, I think you have a very pretty face! :)

I know what you mean though, with the right makeup/styling we could all look the same, but there would be nothing interesting behind the 'face' for people to connect with!

  15. i love blogging because it is for everyone, and everyone in the blogosphere is so diverse, interesting in their interests, hobbies, styles and faces, and how it really is more about your character! just being beautiful doesn't make you a good blogger (and it shouldn't really make you good at some other thing either, ha). also, i love these photos and your look:-) i know i say this every time but that blazer is amazing! and even if you didn't consider yourself one, you are a girl with a pretty face, haha! xxx

  16. Love this post! I think it is so important to love yourself and accept yourself as you are. We are all so much more than our external image, especially when it comes to blogging. You're so right, the best bloggers are bloggers that, may well have a pretty face/hot body, but offer so much more than just that - whether it's their cool visual aesthetic, styling chops or witty writing. You keep doing your thing girl and never care about what others think of you, just make sure you're making you proud!
