Should I become a Full Time Blogger?

There are a lot of well-known bloggers out there who make a million dollar a year, or even $$$ per one Instagram post. So, should I become one? We can, we all can become the professional blogger, but it is not easy. The fashion scene from the Instagram seems so wonderful and glamorous, but the reality is not a piece of cake like what we have seen online. It takes 1000% of dedication, consistency, followers, and potential. I am not gonna go through how to make money from being a fashion blogger in this post. Instead, based on my experience, there are a few necessary things to consider before quitting a job in order to become the full-time blogger.

FOLLOWERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

I think the first and foremost thing to concern is how many followers you have. It doesn't make sense to have 100 followers, then decide to become a full time blogger, does it? (Unless you have a million dollar family business, then no worries!) A number of followers is the factor that attracts the brands to use your blogging service. Are you an influencer on Instagram? Do you have over 40K followers on social media ? Do you receive a lot of work proposal emails from clients every day, or week? If the answer is yes, go for it. I think it is better to become the full time once you have a certain amount of followers and sponsored brands who willing to pay for your work weekly. Besides, it always better to put more than 100% to do what you love. At least, you will have time to prepare for the photoshoot, make the YouTube video, and create some cool content for the fans and readers! You won't have time to do such things, as long as, you still have a full-time job. It literally drains the energy!

HOW DIFFERENT FROM BEING A FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME BLOGGER?

Personally, I am a freelancer, co-owner of the online shop, and working part-time as a marketing executive for one of the shoe brands here in Bangkok, Thailand. This is the best option for me to cope with everything, including working on The Equinox Fashion blog. I was a full-time once...maybe not a 100% full-time blogger but mostly worked with my freelance tasks. It is hard to earn a lot of money when you are just a start up blogger! I didn't even have Instagram when my plan was continued, so you know it's difficult. However, I didn't let it get me down. So, I have still continued with all of my work that I have been working on right now. I guess there are a few things I am currently doing and I am having fun! Though, marketing job takes a lot of my energy, I love having a passive income anyway (lol) I love experience life in many ways :). So, what's different between FT and PT? Well, full-time is you have your own office. It can be a living room, bedroom, or anywhere you want. You do the photoshoot, create contents, reply emails, etc. It sounds easy and fun, but where will you get the connections from? I think being a full time blogger is like a freelancer.Of course, the salary will not be stable. What about part time? Just like what I do basically. 3 days marketing, the rest is blogging.

INCOME SITUATION

If you still need money to survive, and sure that being a full time blogger can pay your rent, then go for it. However, if you need the whole income, then don't quit the job just yet.

WHY NOT RISKING?

After all, if you really wanna do it, then just do it and believe in yourself. I think in this life, nothing comes easily, but it's better to try :)

  15. I think it is really not so easy to be a full-time-blogger and I'm impressed how you are managing your different jobs and task so successful. Honestly it would not be possible to be a full-time-blogger for me, I'm happy I can earn my money with my full-time-job as purchaser :) Cool look btw!

  23. I agree that it's always better to try. You may fail but at least you'll know that you tried your best. I think it's helpful to have a source of money coming from somewhere else too - at least in the beginning.

  24. As always, you've given such great, sound advice, Gail! It's certainly not easy being a full time or part time blogger, it's A LOT of work! It looks easy because part of the job is to show all the major highlights and perfectly taken photos, but the reality is that it can often be stressful, too! Of course, when you're truly passionate about it all, it's worth it and I believe that consistency is always key in order to advance or succeed in any business! Many of the well known and successful bloggers we see today, have remained consistent in publishing content since 2008, which is 6 years! That's a lot! Anyway, thank you so much for your inspiring and encouraging words, always with such a real voice. You look gorgeous as always and I love how candid some of these shots are, it ties in perfectly with the post! Have a wonderful week ahead, gorgeous girlie!

  29. Great tips! I'm glad you've found a balance that works for you :) I'm on maternity leave at the moment so I'm a full time stay at home mum, but when I'm finished with maternity leave I'll go back to work part time - that seems to be a good balance for me, I get an income and still lots of time at home :) Blogging is just a hobby for me so on't think I'l ever quit my day job for it! :)

  32. I've been enjoying these years as a full-time blogger, but Singapore bloggers were slapped with a strict income tax ruling this year. Well, this is just one of the stuff we've to factor in when deciding to go full-time I guess. Have a great week, dear! xoxo

  33. I'm also a part-time blogger since I have a full-time job and working on some side jobs and I also have my own online business. It's tough unless you've already created your own brand then by all means quit your full-time job and go full-time with blogging... But for now, I think I'll stick with blogging on the side. It also helps as it becomes my online portfolio of some sort. :)
