Dream or Stable Career?

First of all, I need your help/advice/opinion about the decision I am going to make next week. I know it is not that easy to choose either dream or stable career, which both are very important in our lives. Sometimes, we wish we could do both..or had someone make a decision for us, however, the only person who can make the best out of it is ourselves. We only live once, so why not pursuing the dream to the fullest? Yet, having a stable career path has always been the goal for everyone. Here is my case, and I need your opinion to help me think thoroughly about what I am going to do.

FIRST CHOICE: JOB OFFER AT LUXURY BRAND IN BANGKOK, THAILAND

Well, I have got the interview about the fashion marketing role which I directly graduated with Fashion Management from Manchester. It is the top luxury brand with the capital "C" and I would be stupid not to proceed right? This is the 2nd time I got a call (only  this time from the recruiter, and I have been hesitating for a while. The only thing that is holding me back is my blog The Equinox Fashion. If I choose this, that means, I will not be able to be a full-time blogger anymore and I won't be able to pursue the goal in my life...However, it is one of the biggest organizations everyone wants to get in. It is the lifetime opportunity..I know. Well I dont know if I will get the position, at least its worth to give it a go?

SECOND CHOICE: INTERNSHIP IN THE UK, WHILE GROWING MY BLOG

My blog is my everything and I can see that living in Manchester for a year could grow the potential of my blog with the fullest engine. I have worked with a lot of brands including the major lifestyle brand like Adidas Neo, etc. That's right, staying in the UK would be the right opportunity to make my dream come true. Yet, it is not gonna be stable like the first choice, and who knows when the opportunity like working with C brand will come again? Currently, I have applied for the internship in a related field, and still do not know when the result is going to come...

Plus, I have to keep in mind that I can only go for the internship after graduated from the course. I mean I can only apply within 12 months due to the visa regulation.

If you guys were me, which would you choose?

  1. I will choose where I have potential to grow and add my expertise to. I also will consider if my bank account grow as well. These are hard and both sound amazing just ask yourself which one is guaranteed not temporary where you need to start all over again instead of moving forward and growing. Best of Luck

    1. Yea, I know what you mean. Obviously, the first one will make a lot of money, yet the second one still need more time to become more stable in the career. Thank you for the advice Jackie :)

  2. These are hard choices. I feel you!! Is the fashion brand with a captial C "Chanel"? If yes, then wow!! That's awesome. However, upon reading your post, I felt like you would be happier staying in the UK and growing your blog. I just feel like it's what you really want to do, and I believe we should pursue our passions with all our heart, and eventually our life will be okay. I'm sure your dream career will become a stable one in the future. If staying in the UK will make you happy, I think that's what you should do. Good luck na ja <3

  4. Decisions like this can be tough but personally I think the opportunity to work with such a well know brand can only bring good things your way, opportunities like this don't come along very often and it will also give you the chance to widen your contacts and gain some great experience and if you decided in a month, 6 months or a year you're not happy at that job you can always return to full-time blogging and maybe with a better insight into the fashion world and even better opportunities BUT at the end of the day it's your choice and you should follow your heart and chase your dreams, I'm sure everything will work out for you in the end, good luck with your decision xoxo

    1. Thank you so much Cate! The only reason why Internship is in my mind is because I can only apply for this visa 12 months after graduate, and now it's been almost half a year! It is such a stressful decision!

  7. This is such a tough decision. I don't know what I would do but maybe I would take the stable job. You can blog from anywhere and although you might not have the same amount of time to devote to it you can still try to keep it running with your free time. This chance may never happen again and if this company is really amazing I think you just might have to go for it. If it doesn't work out you can then devote time to blogging full time. I guess I wouldn't want to have any what ifs in the end.

  9. I love the backpack! Gail, I think you can have both :) I would accept the offer from the luxury brand - it will give you not only more financial stability but also a lot of new skills. It is fashion-related, it is exactly in the field of your studies / expertise. You can always still work on your blog part-time (and you should, never give it up!!!) and after a while, maybe 2 or 3 years, maybe 5 years - depending how your full-time job goes - you can always go back to blogging. I think working for a luxury brand in Bangkok will be an amazing experience and you never know what will happen next - it's like opening a new world of possibilities whatever choice you will make later on in life: to go back to blogging or continue with your fashion marketing career. I hope that helps! :) ps Congratulations!

  10. Aw Gail, these are tough choices but I have to say if Chanel comes calling, I'm answering. You can work part time on your blog and have the best of both worlds. Ultimately it's your decision and I know you will make the right one. Good luck.

  11. i always think following your passion will eventually lead you to somewhere grand-er which job title can't fulfill - but if you can learn a lot from the opportunity, you won't be losing anything by working for a year or two :) it's really all up to you gail - hope you make the best decision for yourself! x

  12. I would opt for the Chanel job and carry on blogging but less frequently if you have to. Having said that, I recently got offered a great full time luxury job but said no as there would have been so much travelling and late night working that I wouldn't have had any blogging time, not even once a week

  15. One thing is for sure, you've got a tough decision on your hands Gail! Personally, I think it's best to follow your heart and your passions, for it's your passion that will drive you forwards. However, there's a reason you applied to the position in the first place and so that's definitely something worth thinking about. Hmm, I always find making a list of the pros and cons is helpful - a list of why you want to blog full time versus working for that special 'C company :) Good luck with your decision, trust your gut!

  16. This is such a tough decision...But, if it was me, as I currently have a full time job, I work around my hours to fit in my blog. It all depends on how many hors you'd bedoing with this new brand. you've got so far with your blog and I wouldn't give up now if I were you. It takes years of dedication with a blog and you shouldn't give it up! You are one amazing blogger girl and you should live your dream! Obviously this is just my opinion, it is all down to you girl. I'll support you with which ever decision you decide to take as you are one brilliant and inspiring person.

  18. I think you can work on balancing the two at first until you can merge it or maybe even focus on your dreams later on. Just keep holding on to your dreams and working on it even when your career leads you to a different direction.

  19. that's a hard decision! i think i would wait to see if there's any other offers. but if you have to give your answer next week that's even tougher.. i suppose you feel that the uk is a better place to grow your blog now, or? for me the most rational thing to do would be to take the job offer and continue growing your blog. you wouldn't be a full-time blogger but a lot of people aren't:-) if your blog continues to grow like this you might be able to quit the job and be a full-time blogger anyway. and if you keep applying for internships for the next 12 months and either find something that's a better fit for you or you really don't like the job and need/want something else, you can again quit and move back to the uk or wherever! perhaps it won't look good if you quit the brand immediately, but at least you would've tried it, got the experience and knew that you'd rather do something else, just because you can take one job doesn't mean you can't keep other options open! tbh, this has turned into a ramble, but whatever you choose to do will be the right choice for you! good luck, love! xxx

  20. Dear Gail, thanks a lot for trusting in the opinion of your readers! I think it would a good idea to take the first chance. Because if you don't like it you can cancel this job and I think it is also possible to blog besides your job. I could imagine you would regret it if you don't say yes to this wonderful 1st chance! Wish you by all my heart you will decide the right thing for you <3
