Reading news is very crucial since our world is constantly moving 365/366 days. I have been working in this industry for a few years without watching any news or reading newspaper. This is literally BAD..literally it might not be that bad, but only you won't be able to have a conversation with others effectively.
Personally, I had never watched the news nor read any online articles because I felt as if it wasn't my business to update of what's going on in the world. However, such bad habit made me realize how little of knowledge I had. When I studied the global economics during my MA program, I had such a good times listening to my lecturer explaining about currency rates, inflation, deflation and the performance of retails in UK. We had a really good interaction between the lecturer and students because she was continually asking questions of what, why and how. Even though, I am still new to the news, I promise myself that I will read the news and make it become my habit eventually.
There are '3 Essential News Channels' which I prefer to read including global, social media and fashion news.
1) Guardian
Apart from CNN, I love reading Guarding News and Media online. I loved watching American news channels back in the days but now I think it is more necessary to update about the current news and economics of the country I am presently residing. That's why I have decided to save Guardian on the top of my bookmark. Besides, there are three different versions of Guardian which we can opt for such as US, UK and AU.
However, it doesn't mean that I read every single written article on the website because obviously I have no time for that. I spend about half and hour in everyday to absorb mostly about 'Business, Money and Fashion' I am not an expert, but I am a marketer and I love to update about economy. It is good to know the performance of the economic of where we live in so that we can set the direction of the business and plan for the best solutions in the future.
I don't know about you, but I take my blogging career so serious that I kinda think about marketing, as well as, PR activities in each day. The Equinox Fashion is not just a diary but it is my business. Therefore, to learn and update about social media news is quite critical for me. I am a social media savvy and I love to know about the trend and progress of such platforms. Actually, there are a broad range of channels that we can subscribe for the latest news about digital marketing, however, I prefer to read the articles provided by Social Media Today because there are so many articles written by many specialists who have been in fashion industry for ages. Also, there are six sections which we all can select including social networks, marketing, technology&data, social business, events and marketplace&webinars.
If you are from Manchester or live in North West area, Fashion Grads is another social channel that can be really benefit. Even though, FG's launched a month ago, the contents featured in the website are absolutely interesting. It is not just about fashion news or trends, but the website also provides the information about career. Recently, the team has just posted the articles of 'Cosmo Careers Masterclass- Manchester' and ' How to Find a Job in Fashion Journalism' which I think that what they have written are very important for us who are either working in the industry or trying to get a job. The information is useful!
Hope my selections can be another great option for those who are seeking for online channels to update about the news. If I find something interesting, I will absolute share with you guys.
