Why You Should Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Yesterday, I finally had a chance to just sit down and read a lot of blogs written by random bloggers I discovered on the Instagram. Surprisingly, more than 60% of the posts I read were just not right. "Something's wrong with this blogging industry." said to myself while spending time going through several posts online. Though, I am really an optimistic person, I still tried to put myself in their shoes just to get the idea of why and how they comparing themselves to other people, which lead to negative and depressive attitude obviously..It is normal to compare ourselves to others because we are a human-being, but going overboard is not the ideal. I look at myself, think about a number of followers I have on social media, and that's it. Basically, I really don't give a f*** about the figures because life is too short for this shit. If you are comparing yourself, also your life to the visual on the social platform, you are going nowhere in this industry. This habit needs to stop.

IT ONLY MAKES YOU FEEL WORSE

Seriously, I have been there. The point when I looked at myself, measured The Equinox Fashion and felt horrible about my life, compared to others. I know how it feels, and I don't really like it. This deep down jealousy only makes us feel worse to the worst. We wish we had this and that like other famous digital influencers, or fashion bloggers, but reality is the moment we are living now. What's the point of comparison? Is it gonna make us feel good? Or is the thing we wish to have is gonna happen tomorrow? No, not tomorrow, but maybe in the future if we really work hard and put every single effort in everything.

Girls, don't hurt your feelings like this, trust me it's not really worth the time to feel that way.

FOCUS ON YOURSELF

We start our blogs by ourselves, so we should continue on focusing on our goals. If you start writing this online platform just to be famous, well where is the happiness? Instead of wasting time thinking about this and that, we should spend our precious time thinking how to improve ourselves, or even how to develop our blogs in order to become more professional. Nothing comes easily, but I strongly believe in the power of 'effort' There's no magic to make the dream come true. We wish we had that magic wand, but we don't. So, the only option is to 'try' and only focus on 'yourself' Working in your normal pace, there's no need to be rush or anything. Just go with the flow, and keep tracking your progress. Eventually, it's all about how to deal with the distractions, while accomplishing the goals.

  5. Dear Gail, I'm convinced comparing makes one sick! Therefore I don't compare myself with others - for me this never makes sense. Not only in the virtual blogging world but also in the real world. For me the simple rule is valid: if I want something I do what I can for it. Then it works or not :) Like you in your very cool street style look!

    1. I do agree with you, in real life there are a lot of people who love comparing themselves to others, which the truth is..that behavior leads them to nowhere :)

  7. Hi Gail :) This post really resonated with me- it sounds silly but I always end up comparing myself to other bloggers and their followings and end u feeling really bad :/ My partner told me to compare my stats to my own in the past and how much they've improved, which I think is definitely a better way of looking at it! Your outfit is beautiful as always- loving the shearling jacket and those retro sunnies are amazing! I'd love to raid your wardrobe :P

  8. I agree with you. If you campare yourself with others it will just turn into depression. So one must love oneself. Love your sunnies.

  9. Comparing only leads to depression. I like to mine my own business and don't compare. You look great in this look.

  10. Lovely words! I wrote a post about this recently too, after reading a book called #struggles that talks about how toxic comparison can be.

We need to remember that we compare out behind the scenes with someone else's highlight reel, and so it's not a fair (or productive!) comparison to make.

  15. Love your outfit dear! About the comparing,i have a way of thinking that no matter how much followers i have i'm still happy with how much i accomplished when i compare the old me from the beggining to the new me where i am now :) The worst thing you can do to yourself is to compare with other people who you think are more succesfull than you are, that just leads nowhere :)
