How Not To Feel Overwhelmed by Social Media

Again and again, that I am feeling overwhelmed by the social media. Have you ever felt like this before? The moment when you feel what is the point of staying presence on Instagram, selecting the best photo to upload, checking the numbers of followers, and feeling down when those figures are not going up, even someone has decided to disconnect with you for some reasons. No offence, and nothing personal, I think it is just one of those days when I (or we) are feeling crushed by the power of the online game. It would be a lie to say that I feel happy all the time when I use Instagram, but sometimes I don't feel that way. Occasionally, I have to force myself to post something online, no matter how shitty I feel. I LOVE social media, and I appreciate everything that has happened to my life. However, I need to step back a little bit in order to give a space for myself to breath. For those who feel the same way, here are the tips I have found effective for me. At least, they have uplifted my spirit, and I can take the weight out of the shoulders.

WHEN YOU FEEL PRESSURED FROM SOCIAL MEDIA, USE IT LESS

Some may say that they have never had any issues with the online world, while some may say they have never taken it seriously, so why they have to feel pressured? However, the thing is once you take it seriously, it can devour your feelings. Either intentional, or unintentional, it happens. Where the pressure comes from? For mine, there is a lot! For example, followers, aesthetic, etc. Although, you may say you do not compare yourself to others, when you keep checking others, deep down the competitive mode arises. I hate that friggin' app, which we can check who have followed or unfollowed us. Obviously, it makes me feel great when people love what I have been doing, but when unfollowing happens, it just makes me questions if they don't like me or something? Or even when the person we know suddenly just unfollow us, personal issue always takes place here. Is she mad at me for something? What's wrong with her? What have I done? Did I say something wrong? ETC. Or when someone doesn't comment you back, you may just wanna keep checking the news feed and see if he/she posts something new yet? Like a f*** stalker, yet it happens, and it is normal. If yes, why not commenting back? Like these weird emotional situations is just annoying.

I have been there, and it's driving me insane. There's nothing personal, but it just kept me thinking, bugging me, made me question random stuff. Therefore, the best advice I could possibly give is to use it less. I mean it, instead of stay online 24/7, just give a time for yourself. I used to check my Instagram constantly, and I felt like an online freak. So, up until now, I have tried to check my IG less. Let's say 3 times a day (well I am trying...) and that's it. I really can't keep up with all the things that have happened in my life. You know what, by doing this, it makes me feel a bit better. At least, I don't have to worry who's gonna follow, or unfollow me. If they follow, then unfollow in the next day for the number sake, then just fuck it. Life is more than that.

Trust me, you will feel better once you learn how to keep the balance between the real world, and online one. Learn how to control your mind game, and you will be able to live happily.

  1. I love your posts, and I can say that I can relate to what you are saying right now, and I've spent a while to learn how to distance myself from social media whenever I feel that a should. Great post as always!

  2. I've totally struggled with this stuff before! It's hard not to fall into the deep vortex of social media's pull, but like you said, you have to step back and really consider why it exists and why you do it. I decided that I'm just going to do it because I love creating something. I stopped checking who follows/unfollows and simply decided to let things happen organically. I also stopped getting too caught up if I can't post for a bit. It's really freeing!

  4. I am useless when it comes to social media, it makes me so nervous and maybe it's for all the reasons you mention and my lack of confidence but maybe I should start using it more and remember everything you have said and not feel so nervous about it. You look fab here, this is such a fun outfit :) xx

  15. I've always been one of those people who are just obsessed with scrolling through Instagram and Twitter feeds. I stopped using social Twitter and Instagram completely over the last 2 months, but I ended up just starting to use them again recently because I really missed them!

  34. This is such a thought provoking post. Social media is such a double edged sword, it's great for so many things but it also subjects you to things you shouldn't see, nasty comments or making you feel down. I try hard to maintain a healthy relationship with it! xx
