I Am Tomboy Style Blogger, What About You?

What does it take to be a tomboy or an androgynous style blogger? How do I cope with the latest woman’s fashion trend, which sometimes can be an incredibly girly girl? To be honest, I have never had any problems with this stuff at all. Besides, I am just happy as the way I am because my blog is my style, and I am so madly in love with who I have become. When I have to put the skirt on, I always lose my confidence up to 80%. That is the fact, and I do not feel embarrassed or anything. I guess, I was born to be this way, the stereotype that doesn’t attract the opposite gender. Why I am talking about this right now? It is essential to discover our identity and love who we are. I know I have talked about this topic a billion time, but seriously ‘who you are’ can long lasting the career in this industry. It makes everyone different from one another, plus isn’t it fun to experience a wide variety of styles from people in our communities? Therefore, I am tomboy style blogger who loves wearing menswear with dark brown lipstick. What about you?

NEVER FEEL ASHAMED OF WHO YOU ARE, AND HOW YOU DRESS UP

I used to be a person who thought too much about others’ opinion. Living in Asia means I have to be a proper girl with a cute style, or else I will not be able to get the attention from guys, and even girls. Seriously, nowadays, some people still look at me from top-to-toe with the curious eyes as if they wonder what I am wearing. At first, it made me feel so down, because all I thought was ‘why people always judge others from the appearance?’Or ‘Why do I have to wear the mainstream fashion like everyone else?’ (If you are Asian, you will know what I am talking about.) It had been bugging me for a while, until I realized ‘who cares?’ I only live once, and I have only one chance to do what I want. Yep, that’s my motto of living life to the fullest. Though, I may have a different style, compared to other bloggers, I do LOVE my tomboy sensation, which I can’t live without. In fact, you can find me in H&M menswear section, because that’s where I feel comfortable walking around.

I ACCEPTED TOO MANY COLLABORATIONS THAT WERE NOT MY STYLE, YET I DID

In the past, it was really exciting when I received a collaboration email from many online stores who would love to send me clothes, and accessories to feature on my blog, The Equinox Fashion. I have appreciated every propose, and every opportunity that I have had. However, when I look into the old contents, they are just not right…When I first started my blog, it was so amazing that I would say yes to everyone. I did not care much about their products, as long as, I could call it as a ‘collaboration’ I got a lot of clothes, I wore everything, and I didn’t consider how I was going to look like the real person as I am now. I was too greedy, I must say, but it’s a lesson learned. Nowadays, I have become more selective towards the proposal from the brands. I used to say ‘yes’ even for the wig review in the old days, but now, I would slap my face, if I did.

HOW TO GET THE TOMBOY LOOK?

Actually, it has helped me save a lot of money since I have started to possess what the guys wear (lol) Oversized tanks, sunglasses, etc. The pieces that I cannot live without are L or XL tank-top, blazer, and accessories. I always combine these three with my own (woman) items such as culottes, bottom pieces, shoes, and jewelleries. I don’t know why, but it always boosts up my confidence in the tomboy look.

  3. Yet another great post, Gail! That's amazing that you've evolved into a woman who's sure of herself with little regards to how people perceive your personal style. I mean, there's a reason why it's called personal, right?! It's different for everyone and each person has a unique interpretation of what a category style means to them. I love your tomboy style because it shows that you can still be stylish and exude femininity, while still embracing that side of you. I would imagine these days, it would be hard for a lot of women to relate to the mainstream ultra feminine style, especially, like you've said, in Asian cultures, where all expectations are laid out for you to follow. I'm sure you inspire many women who meet/discover you and who identify with both your style and culture to express themselves freely, I know you inspire me, especially with those fab shoes you always wear, love them all! Right now, I don't have a set style, it's more eclectic because I like a little bit of everything, so what I wear on any given day is completely reflective of my mood and inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing, you're such an inspiration! I hope you're having the most amazing day so far, gorgeous girlie!

  9. Dear Gail, I adore your tomboy style, it suits you perfect! And how good that you now don't think as much about what others might thinking what you are wearing! Personally I think sometimes I care even too less about the opinion of others and that therefore my outfits sometimes too crass :)

  16. I always love your tomboy style Gail- it really suits you! I agree that there is no point dressing in a way that doesn't express who you are or accepting collaborations from brands that don't suit your style. I'd love to see this wig piece :P You are looking gorgeous in this oversized gingham shirt

  18. It was interesting to read about your progress as a blogger, especially when you used to accept any old collaboration that came your way. It sounds like you're really understanding more about yourself & your blog, & that's a wonderful thing. Your style rocks! I love the relaxed, versatile feel. :]
